2Lt Nathan Robert Hsieh
M.A.Sc, B.Eng Spec. Hons.
I am a Master’s graduate in Mechanical Engineering from York University’s Lassonde School of Engineering, where my research focused on reinforcing polyester resin with a renewable bio-based nanomaterial to advance sustainable engineering solutions. My work aimed to enhance the mechanical, adhesive, and thermal performance of polyester systems, offering safer and more sustainable alternatives to conventional epoxies. I also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Lassonde School of Engineering, with Specialized Honours in aerodynamics and composite materials.
Alongside my studies, I serve in the Cadet Instructor Cadre of the Canadian Armed Forces under the Regional Cadet Support Unit (Central). I am assigned to 883 Air Commodore Leonard Birchall Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, the very unit where I once trained as a cadet. Motivated by a deep sense of gratitude and purpose, I returned to the program to give back, mentor youth, and help develop the leaders of tomorrow. I also occasionally work with the Niagara and Greater Toronto Area office, where I support activities and planning for cadet units across the region.
My dedication to service began early, with extensive volunteer work throughout high school. Whether in academic, military, or community settings, I consistently aim for high levels of leadership, mentorship, and a passion for fostering growth in others.
